Let’s talk with kids about how much the Earth is covered by water during Water Week.
Land and Water Water Activity Using a World Map
Did you know that the Oceans roughly cover 71 % of the Earth’s Surface?
Here are some more fun facts about water.
Let’s explore this concept with a World Map
Look for a printable world map. I used this free version from Printable World Map. Once you’ve printed an outline of the continents it’s time for some water. Not really, but have your child grab a blue crayon or even a paint brush with blue paint.
Now it’s time to find only the water on the earth.
Encourage your child to cover EVERY part of ocean with the color blue. Once they start to color they will truly realize how much of the earth is covered by the ocean!
Continents and Oceans Game
While you’re coloring or painting you can talk about the various oceans while you’re child is coloring
- Pacific Ocean
- Atlantic Ocean
- Indian Ocean
- Southern Ocean
- Arctic Ocean
Now it’s time to find Land! Let’s name the Continents of the Earth
- Africa
- Antarctica
- Asia
- Australia
- Europe
- North America
- South America
Here’s a Printable for you to use of the Continents
Ocean and Land Game
Now let’s grab a mode of transportation to get all around the world across the seas!
Of course, summer camp would be camp without a Pirate or two so you could also grab a fun little pirate ship to print from MyCuteGraphics.com. It makes a great conversation of how long it takes to travel by air or by water.
Once you’re printed your Continent Cards you can have your child draw cards from the pile and make their airplane fly around the world to find each continent. You could also have them place the oceans and have their boat sail around too. It’s a fun way to learn the continent names and also about traveling the world in an airplane.
Raising a Happy Child says
It's a fun way to learn about the size of the oceans… if the children have the patience to color all the water 🙂
