I know this recipe may sound super simple, but my family begs to make Orange Juice Frosties at least 3 times a week. It is a great way to lower their sugar intake (the ice waters the orange juice down) and add more fluids. It is also an easy measurement activity for kids. If you want to add a little more to this frosty beverage, add in a spoonful of Greek vanilla yogurt.
2 cups of your favorite Orange Juice
1 cup of crushed ice. (1 1/2 cups if using cubed)
Directions to Make 2 Ingredient Orange Juice Frosty Drink
1. Measure the ingredients.
2. Pour the ingredients into the blender. (there is less mess if you add the ice first)
3. Blend for 1 minute or until the drink is frothy and the ice is all blended. There should be no large ice chunks.
Pour into kid-friendly cups and enjoy!
Sure most of us can hop inside a cool air-conditioned building when it is hot outside, but what are some other ways to cool down on a hot summer day? In this story, Wet Dog is OH so HOT. He goes through the neighborhood trying to stay cool: sticking his face in the car washes watering hose, sitting near a lady fanning herself and misting roses and ends up in the lake next to a wedding party wearing fancy clothes. In this delightful rhyming picture book, wet dog is trying everything to be cool. My kids can relate and always get a giggle out of this book. It is the perfect read when we have just come in from a bike ride and made our Orange Juice Frosty Drinks to cool off.
I wrote a list on a piece of paper as the kids made their suggestions
- Go in the pool
- Take a cool bath.
- Make a paper fan.
- Drink and icy orange drink.
- Play with ice and water.
- Splash in a lake.
Journal your favorite
Write down your favorite way to cool off on a hot summer day.
Encourage young writers to draw their pictures while you write down what they say.
Let older children write a paragraph explaining how they cool off in more detail.
I usually draw and write along side them as this is a great time for me to sneak in a little bit of creativity into my day as well.
Make a book
If you have several pages, assemble them together and create a homemade Our Favorite Ways to Cool Off book. Put a piece of construction paper on the top and bottom and staple the sides. Snuggle in and read it together.
