We are back again for this month’s Virtual Book Club for Kids and our featured author of the month is Bill Martin.

We are highlighting one of his most popular books, Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? My First Reader.

Brown Bear Inspired Pool Noodle Animal Stamping Book

Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? is a great book for early readers because it has highly predictable text. Additionally, it has stong picture clues and provides practice for reading color words.

Our DIY Pool Noodle Animal Stamping Book is also highly predictable with the text following the same pattern color word then animal, strong picture clues and the opportunity for children to pracitice reading color words.

Learning Objectives:

Children will use their imagination to create a color animal from a pool noodle print.

They will read color words.

Materials Needed for Pool Noodle Animal Stamping.

• Pool Noodle
• Crayola Washable Kids Paint
• Paper Plate
• Crayons
• Multipurpose Paper
• Kids Scissors
• Stapler

Directions to Make Pool Noodle Animal Stamping Book

1. Cut the white multipurpose paper in half.
   
2. Write the color and animal words on the bottom of each half sheet of paper.
   
3. Pour a small amount of each color paint on a separate plate.
   
4. Sink the end of a pool noodle into the paint and stamp the color onto the matching word paper.
   
5. Wash and dry the pool noodle between colors.
   
6. Let the paint dry over night.
   
7. Add in the animal details.
   
8. Stack the pages on top of each other.
   
9. Staple on the left hand side to make a DIY book.
   
10. Read the book to a family member.

For the green frog, add two eyes above the circle and 4 long legs below the circle.

To make the goldfish. Add a triangle face to one side and a tail to the other.  Add fins to the top and bottom.  Finish with a black eye.

For the red bird – Draw a triangle beak.  On the opposite side, draw a half circle for the body.  Add two legs underneath.  Put a black eye in the middle of the red stamped pool noodle.

To make the white dog, do not stamp paint. Trace around the outside and inside of the pool noodle with a pencil or crayon. Add the outline of the tail, head, and 4 legs, but do not color them in.

For the yellow duck, draw a triangle beak. On the opposite side, draw a half circle for the body. Add in legs underneath. Use the middle of the stamped pool noodle for the eye, adding in a black dot.

To make the teacher, stamp and add hair, eyes, a nose and a smile.
