What would your children think if a box full of spoons, art supplies, a book and even a special snack arrived at your front door one hot Summer Day?
It means only one thing, you’re participating in our Summer LOVE BOOKS Exchange. Here’s how it works: You pick one of your favorite books, come up with a few activities to go along with it and mail it off to someone special as they get one ready for you. Then you wait and see how much fun they had with your package. Trust me your kids will LOVE it!
We were very excited to receive our Summer LOVE BOOKS Exchange Box from Mommy and Me Book Club. To see what we sent to her {click here}. Danielle, author of Mommy and Me Book Club, is a former Kindergarten teacher too, so I think it just might be a Kindergarten thing because we both created boxes containing kid created envelopes full of activities. It worked out perfectly, all week long my daughters had activities that they could pull and do, great for summer fun!
The book that we received was Spoonby Amy Krouse Rosenthal and illustrated by Scott Magoon. It’s this adorable book about a spoon who doesn’t feel unique. In the story he’s a bit envious of his friends, the knife, the fork and chopsticks who seem to have much more exciting lives. But the truth his friends envy his life too. It’s an adorable story to celebrate what makes each of us special.
The girls were so excited to receive their box we didn’t even make it past the front door. As we open our box the fun just kept coming, the girls were soooo excited to see each specially designed envelope full of activities. It kept us busy all morning long and for many days after. The activities were AWESOME! Big sister had fun reading the story to little sister and the pictures are adorable in the book!
Spoon Activities
· Musical Spoons
· Retell the Story with Plastic Spoon, Knife, fork and chopsticks
· Chopsticks Pom Pom Pickup
· Marshmallow Spoon Catapult
· Create your own Spoon Puppets

· Make Pudding with Spoon
Musical Spoons
This was so much fun for both girls playing musical spoons. She included 4 metal spoons so that they could both play along. By the end the a big metal bowl joined the fun too.
Retell the Story
We received a special envelope with the characters from Spoon which included Plastic Spoons, Knife, fork and chopsticks. Lots of fun remembered all the adorable characters from the book.
Chopsticks Pom Pom Pickup
What fun to get REAL chopsticks to use. The girls experimenting for quite some time with this game. Big brother was even called into demonstrate the proper technique, can’t wait to use this with our JAPAN Unit this month.
Marshmallow Spoon Catapult
We received 3 Catapults for some amazing fun. We had so much fun we even took them with us on our trip to the mountains with our friends. They were a little hard to photograph mid air but trust me we tested them and tested them and tested.
Make your own Spoon Puppets
We received all sorts of art supplies to make our puppets. My oldest daughter has so much fun with this project and really wanted to do it independently. I have a feeling we will revisit this craft quite often as our characters change and need new accessories.
LET THE SPOON PUPPET SHOW BEGIN!
Spoon Puppet Theater
We had so much fun with the Spoon Puppet Theater. Story after story was told with the spoons, even a few songs. What a special surprise to receive in a book box.

Make Pudding with Spoon
What day wouldn’t be complete without making Pudding with SPOONS! We had so much fun the camera didn’t even come out by the end of our spoon adventure!
Can you tell my girls had just a little bit of FUN with SPOONS!
THANK YOU so much Danielle and to your sweet children for this amazing Love Books Package that you sent to our family as a participant in the Summer Love Books Exchange. Be sure to follow Mommy and Me Book Club for more book related activities and FUN.
After reading Spoon, I can’t wait to check out more of Amy Krouse Rosenthal’s Books like Chopsticks and Little Pea! Here’s a Review of books Amy Krouse Rosenthal Books by Imagination Soup. Perhaps we can even do a Virtual Book Club for Kids with her books soon.
