Amanda’s Spin On It: I See Me Books
I am a self proclaimed book junkie and thankfully my 6 year old and 3 year old have falling in love with reading as well (I can imagine Baby will too). When I received my copies of the
I See Me books, I was blown away with the quality. They are truly amazing. My 6 year old read hers and said, “This is the best book I have ever read.” Coming from the little girl that read the entire “Magic Treehouse” series in 2 weeks, this it a very strong statement.
My kids do have very long a unique names, so seeing their own name in print was very touching. Add that to the fact that the “My Very Own World Adventure” book focuses on children around the world… you had me at Hello!!! Really, when I got to this page in my daughters book I got a little teary eyed. She is half Russian and I do struggle to teach all the kids Russian, even when it is not my primary language, but I believe our heritage is so very important to us and should be celebrated. Here is her heritage, in a book made and dedicated to her, with her name. <sigh> Don’t I wish all books celebrated all of our children with such grace and beauty.
I am the kind of parent who tries to “get the best bang for my buck,” so to say. Doing activities that are cross-curricular and combining things like social studies and reading are of high priority for us. So when I saw a passport with stamps of the places visited (letters of her name) in the book and then a map at the end with all the countries from her name highlighted I really was swooning. “I See Me” did send us these books for free to review, but if I would have know about them earlier and how stunning the pictures are, we would have purchased them (or asked the Grandparents for these as Birthday or Christmas gifts)
My very favorite quote from the My Very Own World Adventure Book,” was
There are several books to choose from and each has it’s own special characteristics. Since Baby has been my “owl themed” little one, I choose the woodland book for him. It is cute and the animals are very sweet. My middle got the Pirate Tale and I LOVE how it focuses on positive character traits! I will say, it does take a while to read them because we have a LOT of letters in our names, 18 -19 letters each! There are a few story pages in each of the books and then the following pages are unique to your child’s name. I thought that I wouldn’t be as big of a fan of the World Adventure book, but it ended up being MY favorite. It is a great choice for an older child!
Pinning your great list. Thanks for linking up to Multicultural Children's Book Day (Jan 27th).
