Cat In the Hat Sensory Bottle Craft

The Cat in the Hatby Dr. Seussis such a classic book in childhood. The playful rhyming and decodable words make it a book for easy readers to enjoy as they giggle away to the story line. Once you finish reading it’s always fun to add a hands on activity to go with the story. I’m sharing with you on idea to work on fine motor skills and build up their visual skills too with a Cat in the Hat Sensory Bottle Craft.

Cat in the Hat Sensory Bottle

Create this adorable water bottle craft idea inspired by the book the Cat in the Hat with just a few materials. It’s a fun and easy project that will give your child a special way to connect with this beloved character. Here’s how to make your own…

The Cat in the Hat by Dr. Seuss

Materials Needed

1. Using Scissors cut four strips of black paper for the cat’s whiskers. Then cut three strips of red paper to make the lines for the Cat in the Hat’s special red striped hat this this one.

2. Take glue and glue red stripes onto the white paper to create the hat. Then use the tape to attach the hat to the water bottle lid.

3. Now ask your child to add the white and red star beads into the filled water bottle. Be sure to leave a little space in the bottle of air to allow movement of the beads.

4. Using your scissors cut a small whole in the googly eyes to allow to fill with water. Then have your child add them to the water bottle and then tightly close the lid.

5. SHAKE! Give your child a moment to shake the beads inside of the water bottle. This is a sensory experience and it’s important to give them this time before adding the elements that make this a cat from the boom.

6. Now using tape, have your child attach the black whiskers onto the sides of the bottle to form the cat’s face.

7. Using additional black paper cut out a small black nose too. {OPTIONAL Add Paper Eyes if you’d prefer instead of inside the bottle}

8. Your Cat in the Hat is complete! Now it’s time to shake shake shake and see if you can make the eyes line up above the nose to create a face for the Cat in the hat. Requires pre-thinking, observation and fine motor skills, perfect skills to focus on for little ones.GOAL make the eyes go to the right spot when you shake the bottle.
