Have you ever taken your child to a performance?
Do they know what types of performing arts exist?
Where in your community can you go?
Encouraging my children to attend more activities that involved the performing arts is a goal for me as a parent this year.

Performing Arts in Schools
We are very fortunate to have an extremely supportive elementary school that encourages our students to attend a performance as a grade level. My 2nd grader was able to attend A Christmas Carol this winter with her classmates.
On top of that, every grade level has a yearly performance. This year they were featured as Bugz (Musical) {affiliate link}
My daughter proudly becomes a firefly with her illuminating role. Last year we shared a few tips for Preparing for a School Play where she was an owl.
Performing Arts in Communities
Plus we have an incredibly nice friend, Amanda, who allows us to tag along to performances when extra tickets are available. But truth be told I need to do a better job of being on the lookout for performances.
Community Boards and Local Newspapers and Websites are great places to look, don’t forget your local Community Colleges and High School Drama departments.
Performing Arts on Vacation
As you plan your next vacation take a peek around and see what the local region is known for in their performing arts. We all think of Broadway when we think about New Year, New York or even a trip to Orlando, and all the amusement parks can create a world of options. Where else can you look?
We were so fortunate that we discovered on our recent trip to Las Vegas that our Hotel Treasure Island was the host of a Kid Friendly Cirque Du Soleil show called Mystère. The days leading up to our scheduled tickets the anticipation drew more and as we’d walk by the signs all around Treasure Island.
Mystère gave us an unforgettable evening as we enjoyed the incredibly talented cast. Here are a few images on Instagram that I shared. This show is geared for all ages, including kids which as you know can be a challenge in Las Vegas. As a mom of 3, I personally would suggest this was most ideal for Ages 8 and up however we did see even younger at the show.
Curious what the show is about? Take a peek at this video.
Mystère: Cirque du Soleil
Mystère is a Cirque du Soleil production featuring a blend of acrobatic acts including Chinese Poles, Hand to Hand balancing, Trapeze and Bungee with powerful music and colorful costumes and sets.
The stage continually changes throughout the 90 minute show while the cast of 75 international artists utilize every square inch of the theater. The casts included a spectrum of characters including a mischievous Clown, an electrifying Red Bird and one jumbo-sized Baby with a unique sense of humor. {Click here} if you want more info about Mystère.
Inspiring Performing Arts at Home
Mystère is sure to keep your family’s attention and wanting more by the end of the show. And truth be told, it will inspire you to want to start doing your own acrobatic acts which is why I think it’s perfect for kids to attend and be inspired by. The next step is to think about how you can engage your child at home with these types of concepts and local programs.
