Letter Match Memory Game: A FUN & Easy Busy Bag
1 piece of scrapbook paper
Cut 9 small hears. Choose 4 pairs of letters to work with and write the upper case letter on one heart and the lower case letter on the other. I put a heart on the last, odd numbered heart and whoever picks that one gets a hug, a kiss, or a high five from the other person as a bonus.
We are working on matching uppercase and lowercase letters that do not look the same: H, h, B, b, N, n, A, a, E, e, R, r.
I have found 9 is a good number for young children when playing Memory. When 9 become too easy, move up to 12, then 16, and finally 20 cards.
How to Play Letter Match Memory Game:
Put all the hearts face down.
The youngest person goes first and turns over 2 cards. If the letters are a match, they keep the hearts. If the letters are not a match, they turn the hearts over in the same place.
The next person turns 2 hearts over and repeats Step 2.
If the Bonus Heart is Found – the person who turned it over automatically puts it into their pile. They can redeem the heart for a hug, a kiss, or a high-five at the end of the game.
The game continues until all cards have been matched.
* Don’t just count the number of pairs when the game has ended. Read and say the sound for each letter.
Letter Match Memory Game Variations:
For younger children:
Use shapes or just uppercase letters and have them find the same shape or letter.
For older children:
Write sight words on the hearts instead of letters.
Write a beginning sound on one heart and the ending of the word on the other such as S- and, c – ake, m – oat. If your child has a spelling list for school – use those words!
