Making Connections through Pinterest

Pinterest has the ability to connect.  It can connect us through your friends, family or even through businesses.  How have you connected on Pinterest?
I’m excited to share with you that I’m on a podcast today on Oh So Pinteresting about Monetizing with Pinterest.  During the podcast +Cynthia Sanchez and I also discuss Pinterest’s most recent updates of Acceptable Use Policy.
Before you listen you’re invited you to take a peek at the amazing fun I had in San Diego with her and some new Pinterest Friends.

Why We Use Pinterest

The Educators’ Spin On It uses Pinterest as a tool for so many things.  We share information with you, our amazing readers, on a daily basis to save you time online to be with your families.
Another way we use Pinterest it to connect with kid bloggers, brands and build communities together.  Just this week’s I featured the amazing After School Team of Pinterest Collaborators that we are so lucky to work together with each week.

Making Connections with Pinterest

One of the bonuses of using Pinterest that I didn’t expect were the online friends I would make through having my HUGE interest in Pinterest.  I don’t usually share too many personal things about me on The Educator’s Spin On It but I think it’s time to give you a sneak peek into some fun adventures I’ve been up to including the amazing people I’ve met.
I had an opportunity to go to San Diego and volunteer at Social Media Marketing World hosted by Social Media Examiner. During my adventures I was able to get to know the talented My Kids Adventure Team.

When I looked at the schedule I immediately noticed that Cynthia Sanchez from Oh So Pinteresting would be there as a presenter!  She and I first connected when she invited me on her podcast last year to discuss our success with over 1 Million followers and group boards. {Listen Here}  After that podcast we were able to cross paths through #pinchat on Wednesday nights at 9pm with +kelly lieberman {Back to School #pinchat} and in the Pinchat facebook group. Plus with the power of Pinterest, Twitter Facebook and Google+ we would often find ourselves in streams of the same conversations by tagging each other.
LOVE Social Media for the possibility to talk with anyone anywhere anytime on a topic you LOVE!

Oh So Pinteresting Dinner and MORE!

We ended up having the so much fun together while we were there! Cynthia is just as awesome in person as she is in her podcasts. We took at fun trip around San Diego for lunch with blogging friends {More coming soon about that too}.  We drove even out to Coronado where my grandparents lived when I was a child too.Cynthia invited a handful of amazing entrepreneurs using Pinterest to dinner where I was able to meet and connect with Zach Kitschke of Canva, Donna Moritz of Socially Sorted, Fiona Lucas of irespectonline, ChristineKaczmar The Digestion Doctor, Kim Franklin of Trashy Craft, Vickie Maires of Heartsong Fit, Stephanie Garcia of Soy Meets Grill and Raquel Ramirez of RMR Social Media. Thanks Zach for snapping the photo!  Cynthia has a few more from the Pinterest Dinner on her site as well.
Pinterest Panel at @SMMW14 hosted by Pinterest Consultant Cynthia Sanchez
During the conference it was so much fun to see her host the Pinterest Panel featuring Whole Foods, San Diego Zoo and Constant Contact. Was a lot of fun to tweet out their tips! {Here’s one!}  As well as introduce me to so many fun individuals who have the same interest in learning about Pinterest.
Meeting new frieinds at #SMMW14
Plus we had a lot of fun at the planned events that Social Media Examiner hosted. It was a so much fun getting to meet and network with Azure Collier of Constant Contact, Matt Wheeler of Driftrock and Natalie Eckdahl of BizChix on board the USS Midway. Thanks Christine for snapping the photo!
Visiting Coronado, CA during #SMMW14

Visit Coronado Island While You’re at SMMW!

If you have some extra time, step away from SMMW before or after and go explore Coronado Island.  They even have an Old Town Trolley in San Diego that takes you on a tour that you might want to consider that takes you out there.  There’s also a CityPass available for Southern California if you’re up for even more adventure in the San Diego area! It includes tickets to places Sea World, Disneyland, LEGO land and the San Diego Zoo or Safari Park.  I highly recommend finding a way to head out onto the water in a chartered boat and see Point Loma from a whole new view.

Meeting Experts

My take away from this is that it’s ever so important to follow the things that you are interested in and be willing to share about them with others.  Last year at this time I would have never guessed I would have spent an entire conference with the best “roomie” ever at Social Media Marketing World.

If you are looking to learn more about Pinterest I highly recommend listening to all of Cynthia’s podcasts and reading every blog post on Oh So Pinteresting.  She even has a hotline to call for questions to be answered in future podcast, how cool is that!

Thank for letting me share about the personal side of blogging and making connections using Pinterest now go check out the PODCAST!
