Hosting a Book Exchange with Friends
We encourage you to do the swap with a real-life friends, I’m sure the kids would love it! Here’s how to set up your own book exchange with friends.
- Choose a date and time. The book exchange should be at least a few weeks in advance so that children have time to gather books to bring.
- Send out invitations. Invite your children’s friends to the book exchange. Be sure to include the date, time, and location.
- Set up a table or area for the book exchange. The table should be covered with a tablecloth or blanket. You can also add some decorations to make it more festive.
- Have children bring their books to the exchange. Children can bring any books that they are no longer interested in.
- Have children trade books with each other. Children can trade books with each other until they find books that they want to keep.
- Have a snack and some fun! After the book exchange, have a snack and some fun activities for the children.
Here are some tips for hosting a successful book exchange:
- Choose a variety of books for the exchange. Include books of different genres, levels, and interests.
- Make sure that the book exchange is well-organized. This will help to keep the event running smoothly.
- Provide a variety of activities for the children to do after the book exchange. This will help to keep them entertained and engaged.

Find a new or used book that your child would recommend to a friend and then come up with an activity that goes with it. Think of the setting, characters, plot and find one element to play with and create an activity. It could be an art project, hands on sensory bin, puppet show with characters and more!
