Owl Themed Name Game for Kids

Let’s have some fun with owl and create our very own Owl Names! This would work with any animal, we just happen to love owls here at the Educators’ Spin On It!

Did you know we have a whole page filled with Owl Ideas?  {Here’s our Owl Page link}

Printable Owl for Learning Name for Preschoolers

Owl Theme Name Game

This is a super fun and quick activity to do with your child who’s learning to identify their own name!  Plus as they get older you can even make this into a sight word game!

Directions:

Create your Child’s Name I used the owl clipart from MyCuteGraphics.com for free to make mine! You could write your child’s name down on a piece of paper and have them find the matching Owls too. It’s really just about playing with the letters of their name.  Here’s an example of what a finished name might look like.

Give your child the letters to go with their name.  Have them match the letters.  Once they have matched them several times in the correct location add a few incorrect letters to the mix and see if they can pick out the difference.

You could also do all the names of people in your family.  Here’s an example with Mom and Dad in our images.

Since you have all the letters you could use them to do all sorts of things, including just ABC order!  I’ve created both upper case and lower case letters since it’s important from the very beginning to teach your child that only the first letter is upper case.  I included a few blanks in case you had double letters in your name.

This activity was inspired by a very special book called Owl Always Love you by Robyn Spizman. In the book, it’s a bedtime story that describes in a personalized way with your child’s name how much you love them. My daughters have read their stories over and over again with me and I adore seeing their eyes light up when they hear their names in this story.

The best part is on each page has their own name in the text. What a special moment to see your very own name many times in a book!

To see an example of all the pages you can click here. It reminded us of a special owl handprint project we made this spring too!

I hope my children will forever know that “Owl Always Love You from your Fingers to your Toes!”

    I love your website with the book related activities. I also love Little Hoot by Amy Krouse Rosenthal, a very cute owl book with a fun twist on house rules. https://inthelemontree.com/book-club-little-hoot-amy-krouse-rosenthal-illustrated-jen-corace/
