The Winter Olympic Games are held every four years for sports that are practiced on snow and ice. Here are some of our favorite children’s picture books about winter olympics. This is the perfect time to talk with your child about what sports are played during the Winter Olympics and follow along from home with your learn about the worlds most talented athletics from all over the globe!

Winter Olympics are on their way and it’s time to prepare our kids for all the amazing winter sports they will discover this year in the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milano Cortina, Italy. They are from February 6 through February 22r so now’s the time to start grabbing books to prepare our children through literature.
I took a little trip to the library to start finding out what options are available with books and discovered there are not that many in my local library. I have quite a few of these on hold and can’t wait for them to come in. Plus I’ve selected a couple on Amazon to buy.

I encourage you to read several non-fiction books with your child during the Olympics it’s creating an opportunity for many teachable moments for your child. If you’re lucky enough you may live in a place where you’d get to also go out and experience these Winter Olympic Sports.

There are so many Fiction books I can’t wait for my child to experience. I’m sure many will also be great story prompts for our writing as well. Penguins, Camels, Rhinos, Dinosaurs you name it you can find books with Winter Sports and a variety of characters.

My kids adore Callie Cat Ice Skater this year. I think it is simply marvelous because she doesn't "win" the competition, but finds the name for the pure, melting sweetness she feels when she skates.
