Learning about Letters with Preschoolers at Snack Time

I created this alphabet activity using Goldfish® pretzel crackers as part of a sponsored post for Socialstars #GoldfishTales

Alphabet Game with Goldfish for Preschoolers

My 4 year old has been very interested in learning about letters the past few months.  Now that the summer is here I’m realizing that preschool for her is 3 months away. Time to start prepping her just a little bit more focused.  One way I’ve discovered that’s fun is to introduce to her how to identify the letters with snack time. Here’s how we’ve created a ABC Goldfish Game using our favorite Goldfish crackers.

ABC Goldfish® Game

Summer time is for fun and travel but that doesn’t mean learning stops. This ABC Goldfish Game is perfect for at home or on the go with your child to help them learn the letters of the alphabet.  Here’s how to make and play this activity.

Materials needed:

  • Goldfish® Pretzel
  • Paper
  • Scissors

Directions:
Using scrapbook paper or construction paper cut out the letters of the alphabet.
Then place out your pretzel goldfish into a bowl for your child.  While they are enjoying their snacktime encourage your child to place the Goldfish Pretzel crackers onto the outline the the letter they have selected from the pile.

Extend the activity by encouraging your child to write the letter of the alphabet they have just created on a sheet of paper for writing practice. By encouraging children to begin to see how letter are formed with straight lines, slanted lines and curves they will begin to easily identify them.  Plus it makes learning how to write them even easier.  If you’re on the go you can always just write the letters out on a pieces of paper four per sheets for a smaller version.  Works great for a quick activity at a restaurants or in-laws house.

Alphabet Activities for Kids

Studies have shown that the faster children can identify letters and letters sounds the quicker they are able to learn to read.  As you’re playing this game not only focus on the names of the letters but also on the names of the letter sounds.  Practice seeing how fast they can name all the letters sounds.  Build confidence with your child and their letter recognition with the snack that smiles back®
