Fall Kindness Activities with kids

Kindness Activity for Fall

As the fall season arrives and our kids head back to school one key thing to focus on is our children and the friendship they are building. Unfortunately, parents often worry about how their child will be treated in school with their new classmates. It’s hard work raising kind hearted kids.

Bullying is unfortunately a topic of conversation we need to have with our kids.

What we know about bullying:

  • Cyberbullying is the #1 online safety concern in the classroom among teachers.
  • 28% of students have experienced bullying personally.
  • 71% of students have witnessed bullying directly.
  • Only 20% – 30% of students notify adults about bullying.
  • Over 50% of parents are concerned about their child being bullied.

As they get older, the concern stretches to how they will be treated online in this new digital world our children are growing up surrounded by.

Did you know that October is National Bullying Prevention Month? A lot of bullying occurs online these days, so we’ve partnered with Google to #BeInternetAwesome to share with you sharing this act of kindness idea for your family.

Our kids are watching and learning about how to act online by many things around them. I want to encourage you to take a proactive stance in helping them learn how to be an Internet Awesome Family.

We’re learning through this act of kindness about how our words can impact others.

Use this Pumpkin Halloween kindness challenge to encourage more kindness and give kids many chances to practice kindness this fall.

Spread Kindness Like Confetti Fall Activity

This fall inspired kindness activity will bring a colorful surprise to friends, neighbors and even strangers as you spread kindness like confetti both online and in your local community.

We made it super simple with many materials you already have at home, you don’t even need to have ink in your printer for this one.

Materials Needed

  • marker
  • colored paper (fall colors)
  • scissors
  • pretend fall leaves or real ones
  • tape
  • optional: Small Gift (Fall Candle or Fall Treat)

Directions for Fall Kindness Activity

1. Grab a package of pretend fall leaves to spread like confetti around the doorstep of a friend or neighbor. You can make them out of construction paper as an alternative.

If you have the option of real fall leaves then you can use those too from a recent outdoor play or walk with your child in the neighborhood.

2. Cut out a large leaf from construction paper and have your child or you write the words “Let’s spread kindness like confetti this fall” onto the leaf.

We added the phrase “Fall leaves are nature’s confetti” onto our sign too for a little more fall fun. Living in Florida, I must admit we get a little jealous of our neighbors in the northern states.

Here are a few other Kindness quotes you could use like:

  • Throw kindness around like confetti
  • In a world where you can be anything, be kind
  • Kindness is contagious, sprinkle it everywhere
  • It’s cool to be kind

Hang the large fall leaf onto the door or place in a gift bag.

3. Using the different fall colored sheets of paper create a fall leave card by folding the paper in half and the cutting out the outline of the leave. Be careful to leave one side of the leaf uncut so that it can become the fold of the card.

4. Take a moment to brainstorm ideas for what you want to do for your acts of kindness this fall with your kids.

You could even use these to make your own Random Acts of Kindness Fall Wreath.

Think about ways that you can teach them positive ways to interact with individuals online and in print. Teaching our children to understand that words have an impact both in a positive and negative way is so important.

We picked 3 acts of kindness to do as a family for our Fall Kindness Challenge.

Which act of kindness will you choose?

It’s Cool to Be Kind Challenge

It’s cool to be kind: be a positive digital citizen by treating others how you’d like to be treated online, just as in real life.

How you and your friends treat each other online will have a big impact on the digital world your generation builds – not to mention the offline world too.

My daughter recently watched this video at school sharing a kindness boomerang as they participated in “Hello Week” school side. We did a few Songs for Teaching Kindness at home together. She can’t wait to see how much we can spread kindness like confetti this fall with our community.
