Butterfly Activities and Crafts for Kids
There are so many fun things to do with butterflies and caterpillars with your child.
- Butterfly crafts: Make butterfly wings out of paper plates, paint rocks to look like butterflies, or make butterfly puppets. These are all fun and easy ways to get creative and learn about butterflies.
- Butterfly gardening: Plant some flowers that butterflies like. You can also plant some plants that caterpillars like, so you can watch them turn into butterflies. It’s super cool to see how they change!
- Butterfly watching: Go for a walk in a park or nature preserve and see if you can spot any butterflies. Bring a field guide to help you figure out what kind of butterflies they are.
- Butterfly release: If you’re feeling brave, you can raise butterflies from caterpillars and then release them back into the wild. It’s a great way to see the life cycle of a butterfly up close.
- Butterfly stories: Read some books about butterflies to your kids. This is a fun way to learn more about butterflies and how awesome they are.
We’re a big butterfly family and spend time creating learning opportunities for our kids to include butterflies and caterpillars. We’ve even planted a butterfly garden in our yard.
