Amanda’s Spin On Birthdays
Your BIRTH day is a special occasion to celebrate. It is the day the world welcomed you. Here was the day my parents welcomed me 30+ years ago. I am thankful every day to have such loving parents who made parenting their #1, most important job. They spent time doing puzzles, reading stories and playing outside with my brother and I. Our birthday’s were never extravagant events, but ones filled with lots of love and laughter.
Amanda at birth with her Mom! |
My favorite childhood gift of all time had to be my bicycle. I rode it everywhere. In fact, I remember finally being old enough (6th grade) to ride 3 miles into town with a friend to buy an ice cream cone at the Tasty Freeze. The little ice cream shop still stands and I’ve brought my own kids several times while visiting the city of my birth. It is a symbol of childhood independence and exploring the outdoors. My bike was painted pink with a basket and streamers (until probably 3rd grade)
Kim’s Spin On Birthdays
Birthdays in our family have always been a fun day filled with the attention on you. My mom is the best at giving gifts and knowing just exactly what you want and need. Kuddos to her for keeping that up for now almost 40 years.
Kim at birth with her Mom! |
When I was younger we lived near all of our family in Colorado but moved early in elementary school to Arizona and then Florida, so birthdays transitioned into a special day with the 4 of us and a party with friends on the weekend.
My mom would always have the Happy Birthday Banner
up when we woke up in the morning with all of our presents wrapped and sitting out for us to guess all day long. It was a treat to see the mail that was sent from my grandparents too, trying to figure out the packages.
(Mine always put the banner up too – Amanda)
Kim and her favorite little red wagon |
One of my most favorite memories of childhood was my little red wagon {Yeap that’s me in my childhood fashion & hairstyle glory!} I remember taking that thing everywhere especially with my little sister.
It would transform into a multitude of things as I imagined during playtime with my sister, cousins and neighborhood friends. Airplane, Train, Car, Ice cream shop, you name it and it would become it. The key to great gift is finding those multi-purpose uses to last a long time.
For the next 8 weeks, we will bring to you Gifts that are
- Teacher selected (Both Kim and Amanda are trained, certified, experienced teachers),
- Parent tested (We’ve got 6 kids between our 2 families) &
- Kid approved!
