10 Things I Love About Being a MOM!

There are many reasons why I love being a real (behind the blogging scene) mom!  Sure, you get to read and see little glimpses into my life, when in fact, the real thing is actually so much better! I’m not a super-mom, I’m just a regular mom, trying to make the best of what I’ve got!

No joke, Read on to find out more.

10 Things I love about being a MOM

Why I Love About Being a MOM!

1. I love that my MOM is my role model. She really is one of the best parent’s I’ve ever met. She is kind and compassionate but also firm and able to set rules and guidelines. She is the first person I call for any sort of advice. In fact here is how the conversation went today.

Me: I carried the di di around on my shoulder all morning.

Mom: What is a di di?

Me: Baby’s blanket.

Mom: Why ever would you do such a thing?

Me: Because he is throwing a fit and insisting I hold it on my shoulder.

Mom: Now who is the parent here? Tell him it is too hot and give him two choices of where he can set the blanket. Then stick to it.

Me: DUH, why didn’t I think of that?

So I tried it right away… and it worked! LOVE YOU MOM!!!!

And yes, I need parenting help sometimes too! Just because I am a parenting blogger, doesn’t mean I know everything!

My mom is my first friend, my best friend, my forever friend

2.  I get to be at home with my kids ALL DAY!  Yes, I for the most part enjoy spending the entire 10-12 hour days with my little people (and the occasional visit or phone call to a person over the age of 12) and NO I don’t spend all day on the couch eating bon-bons.  The kids and are are outside, experimenting, and playing!

3. My house is always messy and I usually don’t mind.  As long as the dishes are done and the floor is swept, I can see past the mounds of laundry on the couch and the toy-littered carpets.  If the true judge of how good a mom was having a dirty house, then I would be awesome! We don’t show you pictures of our dirty dishes here very often, well, because that just isn’t pretty and we LOVE pretty!

If the sign of a good mom is a messy house, then I am amazing!

4. I get to write here on this blog, The Educators’ Spin On It, with my best friend about being a MOM!  Yes, part of what I love about being a mom is being able to share it with others.  I’ve been lucky to have babysat for MANY years, had 5+ years of formal education on being a teacher and tons of classroom experience with classrooms full of 26 five year olds. I’d like to think that it has helped me to become a more informed parent and I appreciate the opportunity to share what I’ve learned with you!

5. I’ve had people ask if my kids were always happy.  NOPE!

They scream they cry, and they even stop their feet and slam doors.

Most days, I LOVE that my kids have tantrums.  Yes, this may sound crazy, but they are very independent thinkers and if I don’t quite get what they are thinking, they let me know it.  I remind myself that it is an opportunity to connect with them when they need me the most.  Although some-day I hope these toddler tantrums turn into words and discussions, I am thankful to be raising independent thinkers willing to share their most frustrating moments with me. And yes, if you see the image below – he is mad about his shoe being so full of mud that he can’t get it back on (not the mud itself as that, he did that on purpose!)

6. I love being a mom with a spouse. There are times when I need to take time for ME. Whether it is escaping the house for a coffee date with a friend or a 10 minute get-away to the bathroom to paint my nails, having a spouse that is supportive of my me-time and willing to play and participate as a dad is very nice.

7. I love being able to make home-made oatmeal cookies in the afternoon, so that my grade-schooler comes home to warm fresh cookies for a snack, just like my mom did for me (see #1 – I told you my mom was awesome).  Fresh bread, soups, pastas, you name it we make it.  It is one of the great things about being a mom – they think I am the best cook ever and they want to help all the time (see #3)!

8. I love exploring my inner-child creativity with my kids. They are a great excuse to try things that grown-ups typically don’t do. Jump in the mud puddles? Sure, I’d love to and doing it with them makes me so much cooler than if I was out there, a 35-year-old woman jumping all by myself!

9. I love being able to talk to other moms about my kids.  Sure we share the great things they do, like getting 100% on math tests, winning the first soccer game, and taking their first step, but I also like to talk about how I can be a better parent, how we can raise a community of compassionate children. I also like organizing little playdates for my kids and their friends!

10. I LOVE being able to be a full time MOM and freelance write for companies such as Sylvan on Mom Minded blog, Moms Meet, and Camp Invention. Sure, I am exhausted most days, as my writing takes place after the kids go to bed, but it is rewarding to be able to “find my voice” in the field of education and parenting. My late night work may not be the best time frame for many people, but it allows me to be a full-time mom and a part-time writer.

Here is a picture of me working in my “corner.”

Thank you so much Valerie for stopping by and commenting! It is sometimes hard to remember that bloggers are only sharing "snapshots" of what their life looks like! Some is good, some is great, and some is not so pretty =) YUP, we are real!

You know, we are all trying super hard to make the best with what we've got. If I can help in anyway, that would be great. I hope some businesses take me up on the offer. Unfortunately in today's age there are so many bad people on the internet that spam, that it is hard to tell what is an honest, from the heart offer =) (which mine is!)

I'm with you — I love getting to be a SAHM and still have a place to write at night. And, nope, my house is certainly not 100% clean, ever! But I wouldn't have it any other way.

What a wonderful opportunity for readers with small businesses! You rock! 🙂
