Fun Facts About Bill Martin Jr.
- He Was Nearly Illiterate Until College â Despite becoming a famous children’s book author, Bill Martin Jr. struggled with reading as a child and didnât fully learn to read until college. He relied on his memory to get by in school!
- He Wrote Over 300 Books â Martin wrote and co-wrote more than 300 books, many of which became beloved classics, including Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?
- His Brother Was Also an Author â His younger brother, Bernard Martin, was also a writer, and the two collaborated on several books together.
- He Was a Teacher First â Before becoming a full-time author, Bill Martin Jr. was a teacher and school principal, which inspired him to create rhythmic and engaging books for young readers.
- He Loved Rhyming and Rhythm â His books are famous for their rhythmic, sing-song quality, which helps young children develop early literacy skills. He often read his books aloud to test how they sounded before publishing them.
